Feedback on Feedback
I love that in Toastmasters, we have an opportunity to get feedback on everything, including on how we collect and present feedback!
This "feedback on feedback" starts in Level 1 of the Pathways educational program. In a level 1 Pathways project, the member is evaluated on an evaluation they give to another member. Knowing how the feedback we supply is received is a great opportunity to improve our feedback-supplying skills.
I recently took advantage of another opportunity to receive "feedback on feedback." In my role as a Toastmasters District leader, I am hoping to collect feedback from our members on what we as a District do well and what we can improve. I presented my initial survey to the District leadership team and got some great feedback on how I can improve the feedback survey itself! I love the ideas and input I received. I believe the final result of this feedback will be a better and more actionable feedback survey than what I came up with on my own.
I encourage you to take advantage of any opportunity to get "feedback on feedback." When you share your feedback with others, ask if your feedback was helpful or not and what would make it more effective feedback. When you seek to collect feedback of your own, ask others if they think your manner of doing so is effective and how you can improve your feedback gathering. Feedback is a wonderful gift, and that includes feedback on feedback itself!
